Friday Night Games

For the first time in over a year, I was able to attend my local gaming group - The Sutherland Shire Gamers - last Friday.

I had prearranged a game of Star Trek Attack Wing with Martin, another fan of the game. The scenario chosen was a rescue mission for the Federation: Rescue Kirk and McCoy from the Klingon prison on Rura Penthe and exit with them safely. Martin chose the Klingon's with two K'Tinga Class battle cruisers (Captain Martok and an unnamed Captain) and a Bird-of-Prey (Captain Chang), while I was the Federation with the Enterprise-B (Captain Spock) and an Constitution class cruiser (Captain Decker).

I apologise for the quality of the photography, the perspex board was reflecting the overhead fluorescent light.

The games afoot
Federation ships deep in Klingon territory
The game went well initially for the Federation, some shots fired, but no major damage. However two Klingon ships remained cloaked and elusive.

The Enterprise was able to rescue Kirk and McCoy, with the the Klingon's missing an opportunity as I had to drop my shields to conduct the rescue. From there it went downhill as I made a tactical error, pulled a sharp manoeuvre that left me unable to perform some actions, allowing the Klingon's to close with the Enterprise and destroy her, though at least the Bird-of-Prey with Chang was destroyed in the exchange. The other Federation ship was able slip away..

Game over for the Federation
So the game ended with the Federation losing its heroes and the Klingon's celebrating their great victory. A good time was had by both of us and although neither of us had played in a long time, we managed to pick up the rules again pretty quickly, and did not make too many mistakes.
