End of Another Year

So, for the (probably) final post of the year, a look at a few projects on the bench.

First up, on the 3D printing front, I was surprised by the family with an unexpected Christmas gift.

Once assembled and tested, I will post some progress pics. I am hoping that the larger bed size on this printer will allow me to create larger terrain pieces, along with more 28mm figures as some of the results obtained with this printer I have seen online are excellent.

Next up, I finished painting my next Pathfinder 2nd Edition character, a Cleric of Cayden Cailean.

On the Ancients / DBA front, I have started some 15mm Native American archers, originally to use with my III/41b Chicimec & Pueblo Cultures army, but am now thinking of using them as the basis for a separate Native American army.

And finally, I have made the move into 6mm Napoleonics with the recent acquisition of a large number of painted figures. I am having to re base them, so chose the basing system used in the General de Division rules from Baccus 6mm. This may yet send me blind as most of the figures came individually based, and I have found that after sorting hundreds of them into units it is not a good idea to bump the sorting tray and spill them on the floor. Twice.

DBA at MOAB 2019

So for this years DBA, there were again two different events on offer - Wimpy Wars on Saturday and Lord of the Steppes on Sunday. Due to other commitments I was only able to play on Saturday so Wimpy Wars it was.

The Wimpy Wars format is a fixed 12 element list where at least half of the army must consist of either Light Horse and/or Psiloi. For this event I decided to take my III/41b Chicimec & Pueblo Cultures army. As I took this for fun, I was not expecting a lot of victories, though I did manage two, but conversely I did somehow manage to go down with a loss of 8 elements in one of my games.

Only two (bad) photos of the army in action as the camera on my phone is not really suitable for this sort of photography.

Thanks go to Greg Kelleher for organising this, and all the players for making it another successful and fun event.

For the Wife....

As a slight divergence from the usual, my wife wanted some where to display her other hobby of cross stitching. So here is a gallery of some of her works. Apart from those shown here, there are another 4+ awaiting framing, plus others done for friends and family.

We will return to our usual program shortly...

Some WIP

Just a short post of some figure painting projects currently in progress

First up, a 28mm goblin that will be used as my monk character in Pathfinder 2E.

Next, a figure chosen to be my next cleric character, also in Pathfinder 2E

And finally, some 15mm slingers to be used with my ancient Greek armies.

Something a bit Different

A while back we renovated our home and included a hobby/games room. Over time we found the gaming table to be a bit narrow, so I final got around to making a new top. I found some wood panels at Bunnings, so with a dowelling kit and some latches, was able to come up with a table top that enables me to enlarge or shrink the top as required.

It is not perfect, but does the job nicely.

Interesting to note that in the background there are two desks. One large, one small. Easy to guess which one is mine and which is the wife's.

A Bit Behind..

I have been a bit behind on posting to my blog, but have finally gotten around to it. This will be the first of a couple of posts this month, starting with some 3D printer fun.

First up, a vehicle I made up from various different sources to represent an exploration buggy that one of my Starfinder roleplaying characters uses in his adventures. I made this with the idea that the seating arrangements could be changed as the scenario dictates. Useful when one of the other player characters is a one ton space walrus.

Next up, I have delved into the making some Sci-Fi terrain, starting with a simple generic room layout, and a small hanger area. So far the hanger door is complete.

And finally, I have made an adaptor so that I can shake two paints at a time with my vortex mixer. Also stops my fingers getting vibrated to hell and back when I need to shake a lot of paint bottles such as when the wife buys 40+ new bottles.

Been A While...

So, it has been a while since my last post a couple of months back. My wife had a major fall and managed to break both her legs back in May, so caring for her has put the brakes on the hobby activities for both of us, however I have managed to work on a couple of projects.

First up, my wife did manage to complete some of her laser cut wood kits before the fall.

Old Corner Shop from Miniature Scenery

Kits from Knights of Dice Waterfront Range

Next, I managed to start on the gigantic skeleton shown in a previous post.

On the 3D printer front, I decided to buy a third party all metal hot end to see if it would resolve the clogging issues I was having. Touch wood, it has worked well so far, and seems to be worth the money spent.

I have also been experimenting with installing LED lighting in some of the dungeon tiles, and this has worked out quite well. I found some cheap LED tea lights which had flickering LED's which I was able to transplant. Unfortunately the picture does not do the effect justice.

Also, I have been printing and painting up some ruins to use with my 15mm Ancients, along with some cavern tiles for a future project.

That's it for now, and it could be a while before the next blog post.

Friday Night Games

For the first time in over a year, I was able to attend my local gaming group - The Sutherland Shire Gamers - last Friday.

I had prearranged a game of Star Trek Attack Wing with Martin, another fan of the game. The scenario chosen was a rescue mission for the Federation: Rescue Kirk and McCoy from the Klingon prison on Rura Penthe and exit with them safely. Martin chose the Klingon's with two K'Tinga Class battle cruisers (Captain Martok and an unnamed Captain) and a Bird-of-Prey (Captain Chang), while I was the Federation with the Enterprise-B (Captain Spock) and an Constitution class cruiser (Captain Decker).

I apologise for the quality of the photography, the perspex board was reflecting the overhead fluorescent light.

The games afoot
Federation ships deep in Klingon territory
The game went well initially for the Federation, some shots fired, but no major damage. However two Klingon ships remained cloaked and elusive.

The Enterprise (right) at arrives at Rura Penthe
The Enterprise was able to rescue Kirk and McCoy, with the the Klingon's missing an opportunity as I had to drop my shields to conduct the rescue. From there it went downhill as I made a tactical error, pulled a sharp manoeuvre that left me unable to perform some actions, allowing the Klingon's to close with the Enterprise and destroy her, though at least the Bird-of-Prey with Chang was destroyed in the exchange. The other Federation ship was able slip away..

Game over for the Federation
So the game ended with the Federation losing its heroes and the Klingon's celebrating their great victory. A good time was had by both of us and although neither of us had played in a long time, we managed to pick up the rules again pretty quickly, and did not make too many mistakes.

On The Bench

So yet again not much happening on my bench at the moment, however I did manage to complete the character Daleks recently started.

Davros, Heavy Weapon and Emperor Daleks
Not my best paint job, but still happy with them.

In a previous post I mentioned that I prepared some figures for my wife to paint, and she has now completed them as well.

All these Christmas figures are from Reaper Miniatures, and are usually only available for sale in December.

I have also been helping her with another project, laser cut MDF kits from Miniature Scenery. These specific kits were made for a game system called Twisted, and were part of a Kickstarter from a couple of years ago. Due to the problems she has with her hands, these will be a long term project.
